Leather and Wax Canvas Care

The leather strapping should be conditioned with a leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking of the leather. We suggest an all-natural conditioner over a petrolium-based one.
Martexin Original Wax is a specialized textile known for its water-resistant and durable qualities. It is commonly used in products like jackets, bags, and other outdoor gear. The unique wax finish on the fabric provides a protective layer that helps repel water and adds to the overall longevity of the material. Wax fabrics have been successfully used for many years without washing.
Wax canvas bags and goods should not be washed or dry-cleaned like regular fabrics due to their specialized nature. Instead, it is recommended to clean it with a damp cloth when needed. Here are some guidelines for maintaining and cleaning your wax canvas bag:
  1. Cleaning: For general maintenance, a damp cloth at room temperature can be used to wipe away dirt or stains. Gently wipe the affected areas and allow the fabric to air dry.

  2. Avoid Soap and Detergents: Do not use soaps, detergents, or any abrasive cleaning agents on waxed canvas, as they can strip away the wax finish and compromise the fabric's water resistance.

  3. Refinishing Bare Areas: If the wax finish on certain areas of the fabric wears off over time, a Martexin Fabric wax or Otter wax provides a refinishing compound specifically designed to restore the wax finish on those bare areas.

  4. No Washing or Dry Cleaning: Avoid traditional washing methods and dry cleaning, as they can negatively impact the waxed finish and alter the fabric's performance. Not to mention, it would ruin the leather.

It's important to note that the waxed finish on Copper Cherry bags serves as a protective barrier, and periodic reapplication of the refinishing compound can help maintain its water resistance and overall performance.
If you need help with a tougher stain or a more thorough clean, I recommend the Shoe Shine Shack in Edmonton, Alberta.
